Expect service disruptions on the G train this summer for signal-upgrading work
Briefly

This summer, G train service between Court Square in Queens and Bedford-Nostrand Avenues in Brooklyn will be disrupted to upgrade its aging signal system, which has been in use since the 1930s. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) plans to implement the modern Communications-based Train Control (CBTC) to enhance reliability for around 160,000 daily riders. Service interruptions will occur on select weeknights and weekends between July 14 and August 18, 2024, with shuttle buses available for affected stations. This $368 million project aims to improve overall subway service by 2027.
"Service on the G train will experience significant disruptions this summer for signal upgrades, essential for more reliable transport for 160,000 daily users."
"The modernization project will replace the aging signal system from the 1930s with a state-of-the-art CBTC, improving service reliability into 2027."
