Gunman who shot man dead in Bronx apartment stairwell arrested on Tuesday
"Police arrested a suspect who allegedly shot and killed a man inside a Bronx stairwell on Sunday. Bronx resident Sean Grant, 28, was arrested on Dec. 8 at around 3:28 p.m. in the confines of the 43rd Precinct. Police charged him with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. He was arrested after being questioned inside the precinct's station house."
"After receiving a 911 call about the incident, officers from the 43rd Precinct arrived on scene to find 38-year-old Gregory Stewart, of Barnes Avenue in Wakefield, inside the stairwell with a gunshot wound to the head. EMS rushed him to NYC Health+Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead. Police immediately took into custody a person of interest, although it is not yet clear if that person was Grant."
"The Dec. 7 shooting was the first murder reported in the city since Nov. 25. The 12-day streak tied the longest stretch without a homicide since the NYPD began tracking crime numbers. The previous 12-day murder-less span happened a decade ago, in 2015. Meanwhile, major crime in the 43rd Precinct is down just over 1% year-to-date compared to the same period in 2024, according to latest crime statistics."
Police arrested 28-year-old Bronx resident Sean Grant on Dec. 8 and charged him with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with a Dec. 7 stairwell shooting at the Sotomayor Houses, 1744 Watson Ave. Officers responded after a 911 call just after 9:05 p.m. and found 38-year-old Gregory Stewart inside the stairwell with a gunshot wound to the head. EMS transported Stewart to NYC Health+Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead. A person of interest was taken into custody at the scene. The motive remains under investigation. The shooting ended a 12-day citywide stretch without a homicide.
