A convicted murderer and a second prisoner who absconded from prison on New Year's Day have been arrested, police have said. Avon and Somerset Police said both Armstrong and Washbourne had been arrested on Wednesday. Armstrong, who was convicted of murdering someone during a robbery in Warwickshire in 2009, was arrested by Warwickshire Police officers near Henley-in-Arden train station just before 12pm. A member of the public had reported seeing Armstrong, who is now in police custody.
Slaughter's 18-month-old son was found after a 911 caller reported an attempted car theft in the 300 block of North Avenue 52 around 10 a.m. Sunday, police said. The victim said the male suspect fled the area on foot and that the toddler and dog were left behind in the vehicle. The Department of Child and Family Services took temporary custody of the child, while the dog was collected by Los Angeles Animal Services.
The 15-year-old girl at the center of a case, which quickly gained national attention in the US over the weekend, was reportedly kidnapped in the Houston suburb of Porter. Her parents said she took her dog for a walk and had not returned by the time she was supposed to, according to a statement from the Montgomery county sheriff's office. Her father subsequently located her phone through the device's parental controls, the agency's statement said.

On Dec. 8, a customer who bought a loaf at the Walmart Neighborhood Market also reported finding a razor blade.
A man has been rushed to hospital with a head injury after a knife fight erupted at a Tube station in south London. The victim was attacked at Colliers Wood station on the Northern Line shortly before 10.30am. A British Transport Police spokesperson said: Officers attended Colliers Wood Underground station following reports of a fight between three young men involving knives.
SAN JOSE - A woman was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run after a man jumped out of her moving car and was killed over the weekend in San Jose, police said. The incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 4900 block of McCoy Avenue, near Grandby Drive, San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez said in a news release. Officers arrived to find the man in the eastbound lane of McCoy Avenue suffering from major injuries, Hernandez said.
LOS ANGELES - A son of celebrated Hollywood director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the deaths of his parents, police said Monday. The arrest Sunday came the day after the father and son were seen arguing at a party at the home of comedian Conan O'Brien, according to a party attendee who recalled Rob Reiner telling his son that his behavior was inappropriate.

An armed Santa Claus joined American Canyon police as they arrested two Vallejo residents last week accused of stealing 24 Christmas trees and two crates of wreaths from a local Safeway. Joshua Gonzales, 39, and Kayla Daniels, 29, were taken into custody at their home Thursday, according to a Dec. 5 Facebook post from police that included video of the unusual holiday-themed arrest.
The two people killed in a roadside shooting near California's Hallelujah Junction were a 17-year-old Reno boy and his father, the Washoe County medical examiner's officer said. Spencer Browne, 17, and his father, Richard Browne, 43, were fatally shot around 8:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, on the shoulder of Highway 395 in Lassen County. A 39-year-old Reno man is in custody as the suspected shooter.
Officers responded to a 911 call on Monday night reporting an assault in progress at the residence in Santa Monica, according to a statement from the Santa Monica police department. They found Sykes inside with critical stab wounds. Paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene, police said. Sykes' son Micah was at the home and taken into custody without incident, police said.

An FBI affidavit says investigators identified Cole as a suspect through analysis of credit card charges related to the purchase of pipe bomb components, cellphone towers and a license plate reader. Cole, 30, of Woodbridge, Virginia, confessed to the Jan. 5, 2021, act in interviews with investigators, two people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. Cole also indicated that he believed the 2020 election was stolen and expressed views supportive of President Donald Trump, said the people, who were not authorized to discuss by name an ongoing investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
