The Train Masters of Babylon in Long Island has dedicated 16 months to building a massive 6,500-square-foot model train display, showcasing landmarks from New York and New Jersey. The club, consisting of 70 members, faced significant challenges, including relocating to a larger facility and extensive cleaning before construction began. Their project, costing around $100,000, will be open to the public free of charge for a weekend, attracting around 700 visitors before they return to work for another year of improvements and design.
The tireless passion project, which runs around $100,000, will be on display at no charge for an estimated 700 newcomers this Saturday and Sunday afternoon before shifting back into "work mode" for another year of set design.
One of the biggest challenges was moving to a facility nearly double the size of its old Farmingdale outpost after their lease ran out.
