"Of the 116 intersections, the most obstructed in each borough according to the study are the West 120th Street & Lenox Avenue intersection in Manhattan, the Northern Boulevard & 48th Street intersection in Queens, the Flatbush Avenue & Avenue H intersection in Brooklyn, the Bruckner Boulevard & St. Ann's Avenue intersection in the Bronx, and the Hunton Street & Richmond Road intersection in Staten Island."
Three groups — Transportation Alternatives, Families for Safe Streets, and Open Plans — identified 116 New York City intersections that recorded at least five pedestrian fatalities since 2022. New York City’s population is about 8.5 million, and nearly three million residents live within half a mile of one of those intersections. Manhattan’s West 120th Street & Lenox Avenue and Queens’ Northern Boulevard & 48th Street each had nine fatalities; Brooklyn’s Flatbush Avenue & Avenue H and the Bronx’s Bruckner Boulevard & St. Ann's Avenue each had eight; Staten Island’s Hunton Street & Richmond Road had seven. City Council proposal 1138 would ban parking within 20 feet of intersections to daylight curb space and improve visibility.
