Police release new video of Markham hit and run that has left woman, 19, critically hurt | CBC News
"You were involved in a serious collision which left a young pedestrian with life-changing injuries. Fleeing the scene makes you criminally liable for a serious offence. We are urging you to seek legal advice and turn yourself in. Police have video of your vehicle and your route you will be identified."
"Video released by police on YouTube Tuesday shows a 2016 to 2020 Aegean Blue, four-door Honda Civic with winter tires striking the pedestrian. In the video, the driver takes off into oncoming traffic, runs a red light at Middlefield Road, then turns northbound."
"Police said they are reminding the public that anyone who helps the suspect in concealing, repairing or altering the vehicle to avoid detection is committing the offence of accessory after the fact and may face charges."
On February 19, a 19-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Denison Street and Featherstone Avenue in Markham and carried 50 metres on the car's hood. She sustained life-altering injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition. York Regional Police released video footage showing a 2016-2020 Aegean Blue four-door Honda Civic with winter tires striking the pedestrian. The driver fled into oncoming traffic, ran a red light, and travelled through the area in a dangerous manner. Police are appealing to the public and drivers with dashboard cameras or continuous-loop recording systems for information. They warned the driver that video evidence exists and identification is inevitable, urging them to seek legal counsel and surrender. Police also cautioned that anyone assisting in concealing or altering the vehicle faces accessory charges.
