The 4 Nations tournament concluded with Team 'urica, led by Brock Nelson, falling short. Initial skepticism about the tournament's format quickly transformed into appreciation for the high quality of play. The collaboration of teams formed in a short time led to impressive hockey IQ on display. Players like Auston Matthews and Jaccob Slavin gained recognition for their abilities. Notably, even top talents like Connor McDavid showcased vulnerability against elite defenses. As the NHL gears back up, the Islanders return to the rink with a busy schedule ahead.
Even though he scored the tournament OT winner, I was impressed by how much speed demons like Connor McDavid can be stopped when playing against top defensemen.
While I'm not sold on the 'epic' billing of the 4 Nations, I was surprised by the high quality of play in this brief and hastily organized tournament.
