Brunson on Thibs firing: He 'meant a lot to me'
"I think obviously it's sad to see a man I've known for a long time part ways with this organization,"
"But he's meant a lot to me. I've expressed that to him, publicly and personally. He's meant a lot to my career up to this point."
Jalen Brunson expressed sadness over Tom Thibodeau’s departure from the New York Knicks and credited Thibodeau with significant influence on his career. Brunson’s relationship with Thibodeau dates to childhood through Brunson’s father, Rick, who served on Thibodeau’s coaching staffs and played under him. Thibodeau completed a five-year tenure that included New York’s first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000. Brunson became one of the league’s top players after joining the Knicks, earning back-to-back All-Star and All-NBA honors and leading the team to three consecutive seasons with playoff wins. Thibodeau was fired shortly after the Knicks’ six-game loss to the Indiana Pacers.
