On March 1, 2025, St. John's Red Storm achieved a significant milestone by winning the Big East Regular Season Championship, securing its highest ranking at No. 6, the best since 1991. Coach Rick Pitino’s leadership in just his second year led the team to a 26-4 overall record, including a historic 17-2 in Big East play—setting a program record. The victory, highlighted by enthusiastic student support at Madison Square Garden, marked the first outright conference title for St. John's since the 1984-85 season, fostering excitement and pride within the school community.
With a Big East regular season championship in tow, St. John's now has its highest ranking since Jan. 29, 1991.
