Brett Baty of the New York Mets is experiencing right groin tightness and is currently listed as day-to-day. He left the game early during a 9-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays after attempting to chase a foul ball. Both Baty and manager Carlos Mendoza downplayed any concerns, noting that the team is not pursuing further medical examinations at this point. Baty has dealt with similar injuries in the past and has had positive responses to treatment, enhancing optimism about a quick recovery.
I was going for a foul ball that was flared towards the tarp, and I just felt just a little tightness in my right joint.
Neither Baty nor Mendoza seemed concerned. The Mets have an off day on Monday, and both said that they would see how Baty is feeling.
Baty said he has experienced this type of injury before, and that he responded well to treatment when it happened.
Mendoza, after speaking with the trainers, told reporters that the team was not yet planning on doing X-rays or an MRI.
