The Mets are bracing for life without Pete Alonso by training Brett Baty and Mark Vientos in first base routines, despite their established positions at third base. Vientos has been practicing drills provided by coaches while in Florida, and Baty is adapting to multiple infield positions in Texas. The team's strategy focuses on nurturing young talents for cost-effective solutions, considering a trade deadline approach if necessary. Despite their lack of experience at first base, both players aim to become viable options in the lineup.
I haven't seen him a lot at first base, but Mark puts a lot of work in so I think wherever he is and wherever he ends up, I think he will be just fine.
The Mets currently are not planning to add significantly at either first base or third base with their attention more on trying to further upgrade the bullpen.
