Juan Soto, now with the Mets, is determined to increase his stolen base count, aiming for a career-high as he emphasizes improving his baserunning. Despite a history of limited success in stealing bases, he currently has two steals in two attempts. Soto believes that with his elite on-base percentage, advancing on the bases can make his contributions even more impactful. Mets' baserunning coach, Antoan Richardson, supports Sotoâs ambitions, emphasizing the potential benefits of enhancing his already tremendous offensive skills.
When you look at my on-base percentage... I gotta get better in that area... Getting on base almost 40% of the time is really good - more if I can help with some speed and stolen bases.
We want to add that. My body is prepared for that.
In talking to him and asking about his goals, he shared some of his goals. I was like, all right, let's find a way to get you to the things you want to accomplish.
Historically, Soto is not much of a base thief. He has topped out at 12 steals in a season, in 2019 with the Nationals and 2023 with the Padres.
