New York City FC is preparing for an emotionally charged match against Orlando City to celebrate their 10th anniversary since starting in MLS. This game comes full circle as it resurrects memories from their inaugural match, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Coach Pascal Jansen emphasizes the emotions involved, particularly since many players, including former participants from the 2015 match, are still connected to the rivalry. NYCFC is eager for their first win of the season in front of home fans, hoping to turn past near-successes into a meaningful victory this time.
"It's going to be a very big night," said City coach Pascal Jansen. "I was told it's the 10th anniversary, and the game back then was also against Orlando, so emotions will be there. It's a big night."
Jansen added: "The guys are really anxious to prove themselves again. The fact that it's going to be Orlando again puts a lot of emotions there as well."
"We were close to getting good results in the away games, but not good enough," Jansen said. "So hopefully now, with the homecoming - the home opener with the fans there - we'll do much better."
