What to know about alternative service routes during NJ Transit strike

A strike by around 400 New Jersey Transit locomotive engineers has halted train services, affecting approximately 350,000 commuters. The engineers, represented by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen union, are pushing for wage increases after unsuccessful negotiations. While contingency bus services will initiate Monday, they can only accommodate around 20% of bus commuters. Major changes in bus route services targeting New York-bound passengers will occur, while PATH services remain available but may face crowding during rush hours as well.
Contingency plans, which kick in Monday, will include additional bus routes and park-and-ride locations but will only be able to accommodate 20% of rail customers.
About 400 rail engineers with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen union seeking wage increases walked off the job after contract negotiations failed.
Starting Monday, NJ Transit is ramping up peak service on the following New York bus routes that are in close proximity to rail stations.
The PATH will run on a normal service schedule but will likely see crowding during peak hours, Port Authority advised.
