At the end of last month, Ubisoft workers in the publisher's native France threatened to strike in the wake of sweeping layoffs and cost-cutting measures. This week, they made good on those threats. According to , union members confirmed that at least 1,200 staff participated in the three-day strike, which was due to run from February 10 to February 12.
Rubbish could pile up in an area of east London over Christmas in a dispute at what bin collectors say is poor pay. GMB Union members voted by 97 per cent to take the industrial action against their employer FCC Environment, which provides the services on behalf of Waltham Forest Council. The strikes have been looming since the summer when outsourced workers rejected a 2.8 per cent increase, then a follow-up offer of 3.2 per cent.
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) are threatening over pay raises. According to Newsday, the MTA wants BLET and unions negotiating with it to take a three-year contract with 3% raises in the first and second years, and a 3.5% raise in the third year. But unions said the 9.5% increase does not keep up with the local cost of living.
BARCELONA lifeguards have called off an extended 27-day strike on Thursday, August 28, after finally reaching an agreement with the Barcelona City Council. The lifeguards had been protesting in a strike organised by the CGT Union to secure a more beneficial labour agreement and to obtain more job stability. The nearly month-long strike reached an end after the lifeguards were able to reach an agreement with the Council that landed them improvements to their working conditions and action to meet their most important demands.

Workers walked off the job, demanding that the university host a private unionization election so they could vote and win recognition of the union-all without having to go through the Trump-era National Labor Relations Board. But after workers protested during the May 16 commencement ceremony, GLU representatives told them that organizing committee members had voted unanimously to "pause" the strike. And, with fall semester classes starting Monday, the organizers say they have no plans to rekindle it.
