Elvis Andrus, the Texas Rangers' all-time leader in stolen bases, will announce his retirement during a special ceremony before Friday's game against the Angels.
In 1652 games with Texas, Andrus maintained a .274 batting average, becoming the franchise's standard for shortstops with 305 stolen bases and numerous team records.
Manager Ron Washington and former teammate Michael Young will honor Andrus during a press conference, followed by a ceremonial first pitch before the match.
Andrus's notable 2017 season included a career-high 191 hits and 100 runs, earning him recognition as the Rangers' Player of the Year.
