Zohran Mamdani plunged into the freezing waves at Coney Island in a suit and tie to gain traction for his campaign. Photographs show a block party marking his inauguration with a large screen displaying Mamdani and his wife, Rama Duwaji, a performing band, security on a balcony, attendees holding phones, and guests holding programs. Mamdani was sworn in in the abandoned beaux-arts old City Hall subway station by New York attorney general Letitia James. He is 34, a democratic socialist, was sworn in with a Qur'an, and described the moment as the honor and privilege of a lifetime.
