This Day in Braves History: Dale Murphy wins back-to-back NL MVP Awards
"1961 - Warren Spahn finishes second in Cy Young Award voting to Whitey Ford, who led the league in wins and innings pitched. 1983 - Braves outfielder Dale Murphy wins his second straight MVP Award after hitting .302 with 36 home runs, 121 RBI and 30 stolen bases. Murphy joins Ernie Banks, Mike Schmidt and Joe Morgan as the only players to win the award in consecutive seasons. 1934 - Ford Frick is named president of the National League. He became commissioner in 1950."

Ford Frick became National League president in 1934 and later commissioner. Commissioners and player representatives agreed on splitting World Series TV and radio rights in 1950. Yogi Berra won his first AL MVP in 1951. The Philadelphia Athletics relocated to Kansas City in 1954. Frank Robinson won the 1966 AL MVP and triple crown. Darryl Strawberry signed with the Dodgers in 1990. Cal Ripken Jr. won the 1991 AL MVP. In 2018 the Rays traded Mallex Smith and Jake Fraley to Seattle for Mike Zunino and Guillermo Heredia.
