Yankees' Carlos Rodon works around scary tumble to deliver strong Opening Day outing
Briefly

Carlos Rodón's performance on Opening Day was surprisingly strong, contributing to the Yankees' 4-2 win against the Brewers. Despite the absence of key players like Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil, Rodón demonstrated an evolved pitching style by using six different pitch types, including a new sinker and improved changeup. This diversification made him more unpredictable and effective than last season. Rodón's adaptability at age 32 shows a veteran's approach to extending his career performance beyond injury setbacks.
In my best years, I just about only threw fastballs and sliders. In my bounce-back but not excellent 2024, I expanded my repertoire to become a more complete pitcher.
The broadening of the repertoire and adding a few other pitches that move a little different... definitely makes it less predictable.
It resembled a worst-case scenario, but my performance was nearly a best-case scenario as I dealt into the sixth inning of a 4-2 win.
The deep pitch mix helped to set up what still is my best pitch: a biting slider that Milwaukee could not figure.
