The integration of artificial intelligence in the nonprofit sector is rapidly increasing, with more than half of organizations utilizing the technology, despite less than 10% having established policies governing its use. This oversight poses risks such as algorithmic bias and privacy violations. Organizations like Fast Forward advocate for developing AI policies to ensure ethical use and mitigate potential harm while enhancing operational efficiency. By doing so, nonprofits can harness AI's benefits without compromising their mission to serve vulnerable communities.
AI is, at its core, changing how we interact with the world and how work is being done," said Addie Achan, the director of AI programs at Fast Forward.
By crafting AI policies, nonprofits can not only avoid such risks, but they can leverage the technology in ethically and socially conscious ways that enhance their missions.
