Africa's fight against antimicrobial resistance DW 09/30/2024
Briefly

Global Research on Antimicrobial Resistance (GRAM) Project forecasts that over six million deaths in sub-Saharan Africa will be attributed to AMR between 2025-2050.
Antimicrobial Resistance, or AMR, occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial medicines, making infections harder to treat.
Factors like lack of access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene, along with insufficient prevention measures contribute to the rise of antimicrobial resistance.
At a high-level meeting during the UN General Assembly, world leaders agreed to a target of reducing AMR-related human deaths by 10% by 2030.
