Cleaned Up Shipping Emissions Have Revealed Additional Global Warming
Briefly

A study in Geophysical Research Letters indicates that sulfur emissions regulations intended to cut air pollution from ships may ironically contribute to global warming.
The new rules introduced in 2020 by the International Maritime Organization may have raised global temperatures by up to 0.04 degrees Celsius due to their impact on cloud formation.
This temperature increase accounts for about 17% of the recent warming associated with greenhouse gas emissions, showing a significant unintended consequence of pollution controls.
The researchers warn that with these new regulations, we may see an additional rise in temperatures by at least another 0.03 degrees Celsius in the near future.
