Human-caused climate change has increased the strength of Atlantic hurricanes by about 18 mph over the past six years, significantly boosting storm intensity.
According to the study, 40 storms experienced a jump of an entire hurricane category, which dramatically elevates potential damage and devastation.
Lead author Daniel Gifford emphasized that the intensity of storms correlates with catastrophic damages: 'Damages do scale (up) with the intensity.'
The analysis reveals that without human-induced climate change, there would have been no Category Five storms recorded in 2024.
