Earth Is Just Days Away From Gaining A "Mini-Moon" - Meet Asteroid 2024 PT5
Briefly

Asteroid 2024 PT5 will become a bonus moon around Earth on September 29. It’s a 'temporarily captured flyby,' set to leave on November 25, 2024.
According to researchers, Earth can regularly capture asteroids from the Near-Earth object (NEO) population and pull them into orbit, making them mini-moons.
Discovered by ATLAS on August 7, 2024 PT5 is a 33-foot-long asteroid closely following a path that allows it to momentarily orbit Earth.
2024 PT5 will not complete an orbit around Earth, but instead, it will depart and not return for another three decades.
