East Wall residents celebrate diversity at new Gateway Integration Centre
Briefly

The community showcase at the Gateway Integration Centre celebrated the local efforts to support refugees welcomed into the East Wall community. Marking St Brigid's Day, the event emphasized unity and hospitality, countering the prior protests against refugee housing. Over two years, community members have collaboratively offered resources like English classes and sports opportunities, transcending initial conflict. Emotive performances, including from local youth dance groups, highlighted the community's vibrant spirit, showcasing growth from division to celebration of shared progress.
Inside, we had frightened residents who had come here seeking sanctuary, and outside there were protests. There was real division and an awful lot of confusion.
But today over two years later I see, what the people in this room and many others have built together. The warmth and sense of community and unity.
