The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, has reversed its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), disbanding relevant teams and policies. Executives announced the shift in light of evolving legal landscapes, echoing similar moves by Meta. This decision raised concerns among CZI employees, given the organization's history of aligning with Meta’s corporate governance. CZI is refocusing its goals as a science philanthropy while distancing itself from previously established DEI practices, a trend that reflects broader changes in corporate diversity commitments under pressures from recent political shifts.
In light of changing laws and regulations, we will be discontinuing our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility team at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
The organization has decided to roll back its Diverse Slate Practice, which mandated interviews for a diverse pool of candidates for all open positions.
