Natalie Suleman, known as Octomom, seeks privacy for her family after the intense media scrutiny following the birth of her octuplets in 2009. Suleman recounts how the hospital held a press conference without her consent, worsening her distress. Despite facing harsh criticism for her choices, including being a single mother of 14, she is finally sharing her complete story through an upcoming Lifetime movie and docuseries. Suleman reflects on years of attempting to communicate her truth amidst detrimental headlines while asserting her commitment to protect her family.
"I thought for a while I wouldn't be able to survive it," Suleman tells TODAY.com, describing the intense media coverage that surrounded her at the time. "I didn't allow myself to process any emotion or feelings. I just was, you know, on autopilot."
Now, this mother of 14 is finally telling her story. "I attempted for 16 years to share, here and there, my truth, but I've never had an opportunity to share the full story, the true story," she says.
The first episode of the docuseries scrutinizes (the often judgmental) pressure some media outlets placed on Suleman, a single mother who turned to IVF to have "just one more baby" but ended up with eight.
