In the article "The End of Children," Gideon Lewis-Kraus critiques Republican policies that threaten child welfare, notably gun violence becoming the top cause of death for children since 2020. The continuous opposition to gun control, support for anti-vaccination policies, and proposed cuts to the Children's Health Insurance Program all contribute to an alarming future for American children. The author argues that the GOP's stance leads to a detrimental course for society, urging political leaders and voters to rethink their priorities regarding children's safety and health.
Gun violence has been the leading cause of death for children between the ages of one and seventeen since 2020; on average, seven young people die by gunfire every day.
Republicans, by allowing an anti-vaxxer to become the Secretary of Health and Human Services, will also be responsible for the many kids who may die from preventable diseases.
To add to this grim scenario, the Party's recent proposal to cut funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program will impede access to medical care for millions of children.
Republican politicians and voters ought to reconsider who is setting our country on a course toward 'civilizational suicide.'
