Sarah Mei Herman's forthcoming book, 'Julian & Jonathan,' features photographs taken over 20 years that document her half-brother Jonathan's development from childhood to adulthood. These images also reflect Herman's journey as an artist and daughter. The project began when Jonathan was just four years old and served as a means for Herman to connect with her half-brother. The intimate act of photographing them created a visual narrative that captures the evolution of their familial relationships amidst the backdrop of their father, Julian's, steady presence. An exhibition is held in Brugge, Belgium, showcasing this unique body of work.
Photographing Jonathan allowed me to explore and express the complexities of familial relationships, shaping my understanding of intimacy and personal connection over the years.
The book 'Julian & Jonathan' becomes a visual narrative that captures not just their growth but reflects my evolution as an artist and sister.
