Eugene Ballet presents a revival of Carmen, showcasing the choreography of Toni Pimble in her final season as artistic director. This production, featuring a blend of classical ballet and Spanish-style dance, includes familiar pieces such as the "Toréador Song" and "The Habanera." Originally transformed into a ballet in 1949, Carmen is known for its passionate story of love and betrayal. Daniell Tolmie and Mark Tucker reprise their roles as the leads, having danced them previously in 2015, and now return with greater personal depth as parents.
Pimble says, 'Our most popular full-length ballets are on season rotations. It has been 10 years since the company performed Carmen, so a revival was definitely timely.'
With a blend of classical ballet and Spanish-style dance, 'the production features popular pieces familiar to audiences, including the Toréador Song and The Habanera.'
Pimble notes, 'While the staging of my Carmen choreography has not changed much over time, the company is always fine-tuning the choreographic work.'
Tolmie and Tucker will reprise their roles from 2015, with Pimble highlighting, 'Since 2015 they have become the parents of two boys and much has changed in their lives.'
