December Parks and Recreation Department report identifies needs for senior and recreation facilities - Austin Monitor
Briefly

The recent report by the Austin Parks and Recreation Department identifies critical gaps in recreation and senior services across the city. Released by new director Jesús Aguirre, the findings compare Austin's facilities against national averages, revealing shortcomings in population-to-center ratios. Recommendations include building new centers in underserved areas to better serve the growing population. As population density increases, particularly in outer regions, targeted investment is necessary to ensure equitable access to recreational resources, advocating for better facility distribution and renovations.
PARD and its consultants have worked with an equity framework over the past two years to assess the levels of service and conditions of existing recreation and senior center facilities.
Austin currently has three public senior centers and 22 community recreation centers. Thirteen of the community recreation centers have a gymnasium.
Most of the city's current senior and rec centers align with the highest population density (north and south along MoPac Expressway and I-35).
