"A three-day hearing began Monday to determine whether the federal government violated the First Amendment when it tear gassed protestors at the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility all year last year. A federal court hearing began Monday to determine whether the government violated First Amendment rights by tear gassing protesters at a local ICE facility. The lawsuit, filed by the Portland Chicken and ACLU of Oregon, challenges the use of crowd control munitions against protesters who may not have broken laws. The Department of Homeland Security defends its actions. A temporary restraining order currently prohibits agents from using munitions unless physical harm is imminent. Simultaneously, Oregon House representatives voted 31-20 to move the voting date for a controversial 2025 transportation law from November to May. Additionally, Oregon lawmakers approved exempting new data centers from tax breaks previously available to businesses investing in the state.
