The Gilroy Garlic Festival, a beloved annual celebration established in 1978, will make its return in July after a tragic shooting in 2019 halted the event. Initially attracting food enthusiasts and raising funds for local charities, the festival drew in around 100,000 attendees. Although the revived festival will be smaller in scale, organizers aim to preserve its essence and community spirit. With tickets already sold out, the event will take place on a five-acre site near Gilroy Gardens, promising an intimate celebration that revisits the festival's roots.
"We definitely wanted to regrow and rebuild the festival, so we wanted to start off small." - Paul Nadeau, President of the Garlic Festival Association.
"It's a kind of extended euphoria," reflects Nadeau, sharing the community's excitement about the festival's return after a six-year hiatus.
