Portland Public Schools will require district employees to return to office
Briefly

The Portland Public Schools district plans to eliminate nearly all fully remote work options for central office employees beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Superintendent Kimberlee Armstrong emphasized that the people-centered organization thrives on in-person collaboration for effective mentorship and connection. Under the new guidelines, supervisors must work onsite five days a week, while other staff will be required to be present at headquarters at least two days a week, with a hybrid work agreement mandating availability for short-notice in-person work. This shift coincides with organizational changes, including the departure of HR Chief Sharon Reese and upcoming relocations of headquarters.
Under the new policy, all supervisors will be expected to work on-site five days a week starting Aug. 18, Armstrong wrote.
In-person collaboration allows us to support one another in real time, offer meaningful mentorship and strengthen the bonds that make our work impactful and cohesive.
Staff members will be asked to sign a 'hybrid work agreement form' noting that they need to be prepared to be called in to their office.
The district is preparing to eventually vacate its longtime headquarters in North Portland as a part of a deal with the nonprofit Albina Vision Trust.
