SCRAP, the 50-year-old Bayview arts-and-everything store, is looking for a new home
Briefly

SCRAP, a nonprofit operating in a colorful, unassuming warehouse in Bayview, San Francisco, faces potential closure next June due to a lease termination after nearly 25 years, as the San Francisco Unified School District plans a major redevelopment of the site. The organization is calling for support and donations to help find a new, larger location to accommodate its extensive collection of donated items, which promotes creative reuse and environmental sustainability. As it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary, SCRAP emphasizes its nonprofit status in efforts for community assistance.
"A thousand dollars is hardly anything in San Francisco," said Steve Lambright, a SCRAP board member. "It's going to be hard to let that go."
SCRAP will likely lose its $1,000 monthly lease next June. After that, the warehouse is scheduled to be rebuilt by its landlord, the San Francisco Unified School District."
Since 1999, SCRAP has occupied just 7,000 square feet, including outdoor space, in a hulking 132,000 square-foot warehouse owned by the district."
Ahead of its departure, SCRAP is launching a capital campaign and reminding customers that it is a nonprofit and could use the help."
