The individual, noted to be inexperienced, possibly did not realize the falls were in proximity. Search and rescue teams have tirelessly covered numerous river miles both at and downstream from the falls. Fortunately, the crews located the kayaker's blue hardshell kayak at Elk Rock Island, approximately 7.5 miles away from the falls, the following morning. This incident raises concerns regarding kayaker preparedness and awareness of water hazards.
The search and rescue team has made efforts each day to find the missing kayaker, covering several river miles at and downriver from Willamette Falls.
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, the kayaker was inexperienced and may not have been aware of the nearby presence of the falls.
