Denmark: Rare coin collection goes on sale after a century DW 09/15/2024
Briefly

Lars Emil Bruun's extensive coin collection, consisting of 20,000 pieces, has finally gone up for auction after being withheld from the market for a century, resulting in record sales.
An astonishing 14,820,900 DKK (approximately $16.4 million) was raised during the auction, with individual coins—such as a 'Hans Noble'—fetching over a million, significantly exceeding expectations.
The auction featured rare and historical coins dating back to the Viking age, marking it as potentially the most valuable non-US coin collection to ever be auctioned.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit Bruun's relatives as outlined in his will, following his intent to preserve the collection for a century due to post-WWI devastation.
