House Democrats demand answers over DOGE OPM server
Briefly

The recent addition of a DOGE server to the OPM network has prompted scrutiny from Democrats, who are demanding answers regarding its installation and data handling. Following a lawsuit alleging a failure to conduct a mandated privacy assessment, federal workers have requested judicial intervention to halt operations related to the server until compliance is ensured. Congress is pressuring OPM's acting director for further details about the server's implementation, including the identities of those involved in installation and oversight, alongside whether necessary privacy protocols were observed.
The machine in question was hastily put in place by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the days after President Trump's January 20 inauguration.
The lawsuit alleged a privacy impact assessment of the server, as required by law, was not carried out and published.
Democratic members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform have given the agency's acting director until February 14 to respond to their questions about the email box.
The committee members also want the OPM to produce details of any IT equipment installed between January 21 and January 24.
