Judge blocks parole in place' program for immigrant spouses of US citizens
Briefly

A federal judge in Texas has temporarily blocked President Biden's immigration policy allowing undocumented spouses of US citizens to remain while seeking permanent residency, impacting about half a million individuals.
This ruling has been described as heartbreaking by immigration advocates who fear it will lead to the separation of mixed-status families for prolonged periods while green card applications are processed.
The lawsuit against the Biden administration was led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and 15 other Republican AGs, claiming the policy violates congressional laws and constitutes a blanket amnesty.
Judge J Campbell Barker, who made the ruling, emphasized that the substantial claims of the laws being violated warrant more consideration than the court has offered so far.
