The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) stated that the data breach impacted about 29 million Facebook accounts globally, including around 3 million in the EU and EEA.
The social media company revealed that the breach, arising from a bug in July 2017, allowed unknown attackers to exploit the 'View As' feature to obtain account access tokens.
The DPC noted the breach affected personal data categories including full names, email addresses, and children's personal data, highlighting serious privacy violations resulting from the exploit.
