He directed civilian employees to reply to a separate request from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), listing five weekly accomplishments. Hegseth emphasized the importance of this task, linking it to resource management and operational readiness. Employees had until Monday night to respond, contrasting the earlier directive to ignore Musk's email regarding the same topic.
"I am now directing each member of the department's civilian federal workforce to provide 5 bullets of what they accomplished last week and comply with OPM's email directive," Hegseth said.
"Hegseth said that replying to Musk's email was crucial to ensuring that the DoD is not wasting resources while also being mission-ready."
