Seven months for IT worker who trashed his work network
Briefly

Mohammed Umar Taj, a disgruntled IT worker, was sentenced to over seven months in prison for sabotaging his employer's computer network following his suspension. After being suspended in July 2022, he exploited the delay in the revocation of his access to manipulate login details and multi-factor authentication settings, causing significant operational disruption and estimated financial loss of £200,000. His actions served as a reminder of the necessity for companies to promptly secure access credentials when employees are suspended to prevent similar retaliatory actions in the future.
Taj set out to get revenge on his employer following his suspension from work. He did so by targeting their IT system, which he had privileged access to.
The company didn't immediately rescind his network credentials, and within hours, he began altering login names and passwords to disrupt operations.
