Briefly

Truong My Lan has been sentenced to death for orchestrating Vietnam's largest financial fraud case, involving embezzlement of $12.5 billion, nearly 3% of Vietnam's GDP.
Lan faces additional charges including money laundering and fraudulent property acquisition, having raised $1.2 billion illegally from around 36,000 investors through bond issuance.
The investigation revealed 21 companies connected to her firm illegally transferred over $4.5 billion in and out of Vietnam from 2012 to 2022.
Lan's trial, along with 33 other defendants, exemplifies Vietnam's ongoing anti-corruption campaign, which has led to the imprisonment of numerous high-profile business and state leaders.
