Microsoft is phasing out the password storage and autofill features in its Authenticator app, effective this July. Users must transition to Microsoft Edge or another password management solution for these functionalities. Additionally, Microsoft plans to delete all saved payment information and passwords from Authenticator by August. This change follows the cessation of new password storage which was part of a broader strategy to consolidate authentication services. Despite this shift, Authenticator will maintain support for passkeys, enabling users to authenticate accounts with device-specific methods like fingerprints or face recognition.
Starting July, Microsoft Authenticator will cease allowing users to store or autofill passwords, urging them to transition to Edge or another password manager.
In August, Microsoft will erase saved passwords and payment information from Authenticator, compelling users to either adopt Microsoft Edge or export their passwords.
