"Over 14% of our residents are on the poverty level, 39% are the working poor."
"No Kid Hungry wanted to work with Caroline County because it can be really hard for rural citizens to access things that they need because they're so far away from them,"
"It's one less thing I have to worry about as far as, oh, did they eat or not?"
"It helps me financially, because breakfast is expensive."
Greensboro Elementary School in Caroline County, Maryland, receives healthy, free school meals to address child hunger. Caroline County is rural and among Maryland's poorest counties, with over 14% of residents at the poverty level and 39% classified as working poor. The USDA reports nearly 14 million U.S. children face hunger, about one in five. No Kid Hungry partners with the county to provide free meal programs and improve access for rural families. Local families report reduced financial stress and greater assurance that children eat. Citi is matching donations to No Kid Hungry at triple value on Giving Tuesday, up to $500,000.
