In light of a measles outbreak in Texas, health experts stress that adults vaccinated with two recommended doses generally have sufficient immunity against measles. Pediatrician Dr. Michael Glazier assures that those individuals achieve about 97% effectiveness against infection. However, individuals uncertain of their vaccination history, those vaccinated before 1968, or people planning to travel to high-risk areas should consider receiving an additional booster. The concern remains that low vaccination rates could lead to wider outbreaks, as measles is highly contagious.
Outbreaks are still cause for public health concern, as measles is exceptionally good at spreading from person to person.
If what's happening in Texas is a harbinger of having more pockets of children that aren't vaccinated, it will become a much more widespread issue.
If you were vaccinated before 1968, you might benefit from a booster. Earlier versions of the vaccines aren't as effective.
I'm not worried that I'm going to get measles or that I need another dose.
