National Breastfeeding Month celebrates the vital role of breastfeeding in providing babies with the healthiest start in life. Breast milk offers essential nutrients, antibodies, and hormones, supporting children's growth and decreasing their risk of chronic conditions. Mothers also benefit from reduced health risks. Despite clear advantages, challenges such as physical discomfort, latching issues, and lack of support can hinder breastfeeding. The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center's WIC program assists mothers through counseling, education, and resources, aiming to lessen the obstacles associated with breastfeeding and promote its practice.
Breast milk is more than food. It is a complete source of nourishment designed specifically for each baby's needs.
Research consistently shows that breastfeeding can reduce a child's risk of infections, asthma, obesity, and certain chronic illnesses later in life.
For mothers, breastfeeding can lower the risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and breast and ovarian cancers.
Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center's WIC program provides breastfeeding knowledge through events, one-on-one counseling with experts, and peer counselor support.
