To improve train service reliability between Stuttgart and Zurich, SBB has organized a replacement service for chronically late Deutsche Bahn (DB) trains operating in Switzerland. In 2024, only 64% of DB's long-distance trains were on time, compared to 93.2% of Swiss trains. DB trains arriving in Basel more than 20 minutes late will be terminated, with passengers transferred to waiting Swiss trains. From July 7th, a joint replacement service between Schaffhausen and Zurich will operate for delayed DB InterCity trains, using crews from both nations. SBB and DB will monitor these measures for effectiveness.
