This summer, a mother and daughter work together on a screened-in porch, turning the space into a shared office environment. The daughter steps into her first corporate role, allowing her mother to witness her growth. They maintain a rhythm, occasionally exchanging thoughts or laughter while learning to work alongside each other. The daughter develops adulting skills, gaining independence, while the mother learns to let go. The experience deepens their relationship as they share moments of connection amidst the demands of work and the changing dynamics of their lives.
Working side-by-side has allowed both of us to develop a new rhythm together. We rarely interrupt each other, but when we do, it’s for something worthwhile.
She’s learning the adulting skills necessary for her new corporate role while I'm learning to let go and appreciate this new phase of our relationship.
