Originally granted just one hour with her newborn before she was to be taken into foster care, the midwife intervened to allow more time. Keira cherished every moment, from holding Zammi to wishing her a happy birthday. Yet, as the hour passed, joy quickly turned to sorrow as she prepared for the impending separation, reflecting on the painful transition from bliss to heartbreak amid the impending goodbye.
It feels like you come into the darkness, says Keira, her body frozen. Now I have to count the minutes. That pure joy was gone.
I just laid back, she says, arms cradled and slowly reclining on her sofa... Right there: unconditional love, pure happiness, all that joy.
